Space Energy Insights, in partnership with the Space Frontier Foundation, HStar and 3i3S have asked Ilago to organise a 3-day conference in Mandelieu – Côte d’Azur on the subject of Energy from Space : the generation of clean electricity in space and its transmission to Earth towards contributing to societal decarbonisation. This 2nd edition of the conference follows-on from the successful inaugral conference which was held in April 2024 at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London, which saw the participation of more than 200 attendees from around the world and most of the key international actors in the field of Space-based Solar Power.

The aim of this event is to give the global community working in the field of Energy from Space the opportunity to meet and exchange on this topic, but importantly, to engage beyond the space sector with the energy sector as well, both private and public actors.

The idea behind Space-Based Solar Power is to gather solar power where it is available continuously and in plentiful supply, up in Earth orbit, unperturbed by local weather or darkness, then send it down wirelessly to Earth where it is needed. The concept complements rather than competes with terrestrial renewables, because Space-Based Solar Power can make power available reliably on an ongoing 24/7 basis, providing much-needed stability to the electricity grid as the share of intermittent renewables continues to increase, reducing dependence on large-scale storage solutions.
